Death penalty for apostates

According to the IHEU’s 2013 report, Malaysia has been listed alongside Iran and Afghanistan among the 12 countries in the world where atheism or apostasy is punishable by death.

Malaysians are required to legally declare their race and religion on their identity card; having none will get you a scowl from the government officer at the least. But the situation is far more severe for Muslims, who are defined by law at birth. Leaving Islam, be it for another religion or none at all, remains a crime that carries a variety of severe punishments, including the death sentence.
